Noël par le Studio Baroque IMEP
The Studio Baroque IMEP is collaborating once again this year with OrgueStudio and the Early Music Department to put together a wonderful Christmas programme for you. Emmanuel Grégoire joins this merry band, adding his insightful commentary on the songs and instrumental pieces that invite you to experience the magic of Advent in one of Namur's baroque gems, the beautiful Saint-Loup Church.
Chantons Noël - Studio Baroque IMEP at the Mardesous Abbey
Maredsous Abbey is preparing to be filled with the sounds of Christmas carols. From November 22nd to December 12th, the Basilica of Saint-Benoît will host a Christmas concert festival to raise funds for the restoration work undertaken as part of the ‘Basilique 2030’ project.
On Sunday December 7th at 5 p.m., the Studio Baroque IMEP, led by Sophie Karthäuser, will perform a programme entitled “Chantons Noël”, combining tradition and vocal finesse.
This festival is part of the ‘Basilique 2030’ project, a vast restoration campaign aimed at restoring the Basilica, whose roofs and facades require major work. It is a way of combining beauty, culture and solidarity, in the spirit of openness that characterises Maredsous," emphasises Father Abbot François Lear. All proceeds from these evenings will go towards financing the restoration of the Basilica, a symbol of faith, tradition and peace, but also a place of welcome and encounter for hundreds of thousands of visitors each year.

Johannes-Passion - Bach (staged and choreographed)
Too operatic, too dramatic, not appropriate for the occasion—the congregation at Leipzig's St. Nicholas Church was not impressed when Johann Sebastian Bach performed his St. John Passion there for the first time on Good Friday in 1724. In fact, Bach goes beyond a simple setting of the Passion story and fully exploits the dramatic potential inherent in the text of the Gospel of John with all musical means at his disposal. Above all, the numerous choral scenes lend the work an almost theatrical power. And although it is a biblical story that is told here, it is the great, universal human themes that are at stake: loyalty and betrayal, suffering and compassion, denial and forgiveness.
In cooperation with the international “schrit_tmacher Festival,” Olivia Fuchs is staging Bach's most dramatic Passion this season. Musicians and dancers join to develop a new interpretation of the “St. John Passion,” in which contemporary dance adds another dimension of expression to Bach's timeless music.

Ulysse et les Odysséennes - Studio Baroque IMEP
As part of a performance-training programme by Studio Baroque IMEP, directed by Sophie Karthäuser, François de Carpentries and Karine Van Hercke present a participatory creation based on the journey of Ulysses, as experienced by the women (Calypso, Circe, Nausicaa, Penelope, etc.) who marked his path, through operas from the 17th and 18th centuries. A mythical journey revisited through a contemporary interpretation of their emotional experiences, giving voice to these women, symbols of the forces that animate and motivate human existence, through which the hero and traveller merely passes.
Aline will play the role of Nausicaa.
Price: €15 (adults) – €10 (seniors 60+) – Free (IMEP teachers & students – young people under 26) – Booking required via the link below
Opéra Paris - Ercole Amante - Antonia Bembo
Aline will be performing as a member of the Choeur de Chambre de Namur in this production with the Paris National Opera.
Eight years after the success of Les Indes galantes, conductor Leonardo García Alarcón returns to the Paris Opera with a gem: a score by Antonia Bembo, an 18th century composer whose tumultuous life resembles a novel.
Fleeing a violent husband, this Venetian sought refuge at the court of Louis XIV, where she received the king’s protection. It was in France that she forged a personal style, straddling Italian and French culture, before composing her opera Ercole amante in 1707, based on the libretto previously used by her master Francesco Cavalli.
Never before staged, this Hercules in love, marked by harmonic originality and outstanding vocal virtuosity, is making its repertoire debut at the Paris Opera.
Netia Jones explores the baroque work, full of gods and supernatural elements, and reveals its modernity: that of a powerful but ageing man incapable of accepting a woman’s refusal to consent.

Li R’vindje di l’Âbe (La revanche de l’arbre) - Patrick Leterme - Choeur de Chambre de Namur
An immense oak intertwines its dazzling and tragic destiny with that of human beings. From Henri Simon’s splendid diptych in Liège Walloon Li Mwért di l’Åbe (1909) and Li R’vindje di l’Åbe (1926), Patrick Leterme draws a choral and symphonic score that brings together young and old, orchestra and choir, professionals and enthusiasts. The show, performed in the regional language, breathes new life into our heritage, singing of life, nature and our roots in our common land.

Singing Summer Camp - Dinant International Music Academy
After teaching at the International Musica Academy in Dinant as an assistant to my former teacher Eunice Arias last year, I've now been invited to open my own singing class at this summer academy that I'm particularly fond of.
I myself took part in these courses with Eunice when I was a teenager, and it remains a wonderful memory on my journey of vocal training. A uniquely eclectic and supportive environment that welcomes all levels and ages, from complete beginners to near-professional conservatory students, everyone is there to support each other and grow together. All musical styles are welcome, and we'll work on your technique, your musicality and your joy in singing with confidence, all according to your needs!
In addition to your singing lessons, you can enroll in another instrument class or choose from one of the many group workshops on offer: stress management, chamber music, orchestra, baroque music, music theory, rhythm, dance...
It is possible (but not compulsory) of getting accommodation with the boarding school rooms of the Collège Notre-Dame de Bellevue (aptly named, with its breathtaking view over the charming town of Dinant). You'll also be able to enjoy some great walks in the area. The school's swimming pool is also accessible, and every evening there are great concerts, movie nights, karaoke, etc. to unwind and make friends!
Playtime and supervision is also provided for younger children.
Please note: I will only be teaching during “week C” from August 11th to August 17th

METAMORPHOSES: un one-mythomane-show baroque
This piece is inspired by Ovid's Metamorphoses, an inexhaustible source of tales of transformation, escape and rebirth. Combining baroque music with monologues from theatre and film, it offers a personal exploration of the masks we wear, the identities we shape, the roles we play or those that are assigned to us.
Drawing on a repertoire of operas and cantatas inspired by Greco-Roman mythology, the show invites us to consider what these figures from the past can still say about our present-day lives. Using a scenography in dialogue with ‘textile art’ - upcycled garments assembled in patchwork fashion - the show will explore themes of disguise, dress-up, concealment or unveiling, inner struggle and renewal.
Rather than offering an obvious interpretation, Métamorphoses leaves ample room for the spectator's imagination and, as it weaves meaning through the fragments of a life, opens up a space for reflection on questions of authenticity, representation and play.
