Why choose between science and tradition when you can learn from both?
Hi! My Name is Aline and I help aspiring and professional musicians develop or refine their operatic singing through historically and scientifically informed technical practice, empowering them to become their own best coach.
In order to become your best operatic singing coach, you need:
a clear acoustic objective
strong understanding of vocal function
a problem-solving technical toolkit
Here's the workplan you can look forward to if you join the studio
Cultivate curiosity about recorded heritage spanning from early gramophone records to today, to feed your auditory imagination and position your work in relation to western singing tradition.
"Who was Tetrazzini anyway?", eh?
Acquire essential scientific and sensory understanding of laryngeal and respiratory function to prevent vocal injury/fatigue.
"Supporting" with more air is not going to help. There is another way.
Find out what makes you sound like YOU, and set exciting, achievable artistic goals.
You mean I don't have to want to sound like everybody else?
Set a positive, patient, constructive inner critic's voice for joyful practice and exploration.
Practicing without hating yourself? Groundbreaking, I know.
Develop adaptable tools and exercises (with an emphasis on onset, registration, cord closure and legato) to overcome targeted technical challenges.
Do you know WHY you do this or that exercise? Or are you just doing what you were told to do by a teacher years ago?
Understand the acoustic demands of non-amplified singing and learn to hear and produce the required resonance (squillo, chiaroscuro…).
You mean there's more to it than making a "big" sound with a big wobbly vibrato?
Connect your singing voice to theatrical speech for intelligible pure vowels, dramatic contrast, and overall ease of expression.
"Si canta come si parla"… audiences can and should be able to understand the words we sing!
Celebrate and encourage stylistic flexibility to meet the demands of the "portfolio" career, "Festvertrag", or simply adventurous singer (art song / opera / early music / musical theatre / choral music / crossover).
Don't fret, I think crossover can be really cool and can unlock great vocal possibilities. It would be my honor to help you not to turn into a Christmas opera meme.
